Deep Winter Quilting

Sherry took a class at Mystic Maine. She made "Inman Park" using 2x3 inch rectangles. Pattern is free on the internet. Lots of variety with those 1930s fabrics.

Sherry used a pattern by Sweet Jane's for this Tea Party quilt. She used fabrics from Koleen and Brenda G., both former PTQG members and sadly missed by all. In her mind, Sherry was saying, c'mon girls, let's have a tea party. A lovely quilt with precious memories.

Sherry showed us her "X Block" quilt using the corresponding ruler. Sherry will be giving us a demonstration at our next meeting. Sherry's quilt will whet your appetite for that demo!

An original design from Sherry! She's getting ready for our Christmas in July Maine Quilts event! We all loved this beautiful quilt top.

Carol presented her finished horse quilt, all quilted and bound. Such a good use of fabric scraps, so many ways this setting could be used. Another generous donation to the CROWNS program.

Leann wowed us again at Show and Tell. This time Leann used storybook panels at the center and created her own borders.

She even made pillow shams!

Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland-sweet dreams for some child. Leann is donating both of these stunning quilts and shams to the Hubbard Free Library in Hallowell for a fund raising auction. You might want to find out when the auction will be held so you can have a chance to win!

Leann said she bought the panels at https://ineedfabric.com/. I thought she was kidding when she told us that, but no, there really is a website under that name. Beautiful work, Leann.

Meliss brought in this colorful quilt that uses Lori Holt fabrics. Meliss created the center block and the rest was made as a Round Robin challenge with Kaleidoscope Quilters. Gorgeous!

Elly has gone all out for today's Show and Tell and demo. She used the Studio 180 Hunter Star ruler to make many variations on that traditional quilt block. Here is the Streak of Lightning version.

Red, white and blue for a Quilt of Valor donation.

Yes, Elly used the Hunter Star ruler for this one, too. Pattern is from American Quilter magazine. Elly made sure we acknowledged her applique stems! Yes, they are perfect and make a beautiful quilt!

Complementary colors for a breathtaking quilt!

Whew, that is dedication, Elly! Another Hunter Star in bright solids. Did someone say "Amish"? Striking!

Elly has two sizes of Hunter Star rulers. She has sprayed them so they don't slide when cutting.

Elly's inspiration and directions for the many blocks and quilts she made.

I hope these quilts and happy faces inspire you to make a quilt this winter. There is plenty of winter left, you know!

Happy Stitching!

Quilting ideas for 2023

Leanne won our BOM raffle blocks. Spring was the theme and pink and pastels were suggested.

What are your quilting goals for 2023? Do you make whatever strikes your fancy at the moment or do you plan ahead with specific patterns in mind? Don't forget that our blog is a wonderful source of inspiration. Show and Tell at every meeting and you can scroll back through the years to get ideas, too. I'm sure anyone in our group would be happy and flattered to help you make something they brought to a meeting.

Sue brought her Christmas quilt called Ribbon Candy by Doug Leko. She said the top was made all with scraps and the quilting pattern is also called Ribbon Candy. Sweet!

Barb brought along her version of Ribbon Candy, too. She wanted us to tell her if she should finish it. We gave her a resounding YES vote.

Anne bought her vest and scarf at a thrift shop. Don't you love those buttons? So of course, she had to make a dress. Anne has made so many dresses lately that she improvised with this one and made her own pattern. She giving us a twirl here!

Sharon made this beautiful tree skirt with embroidered squares her cousin gave her. It must have been beautiful under the tree. I'm sure she will enjoy it for years to come.

Leanne took a class at Mystic Maine where she learned how to make this Hunter Star Quilt. Elly will be demonstrating how to use the Hunter Star ruler at next month's meeting at Tacoma. The ruler is one of Deb Tucker's Studio 180 collection. Great colors, sure to make someone happy.

Oh my goodness, Meliss made the most beautiful "Long Time Gone" quilt that I've ever seen. I may have to study this picture some more. Pattern by Jen Kingwell who will be at Maine Quilts this summer. I hope Meliss puts this in the show so Jen can see it! Bravo, Meliss!

Meliss won the "Winter" theme blocks at December's BOM raffle. Nicely balanced layout. Wouldn't this make a cheery wall hanging for those cold winter months?

I made a little caroler doll for Christmas. She is made out of red plaid wool that a friend gave me (I only have quilting cotton). She is holding her sheet music. I should have asked Anne W. if she could read the music, maybe it is not a Christmas carol after all. I'm going to concentrate some of my quilting time to doll making in 2023. I still have some UFOs to work on and I want to make some monthly mini quilts. And, and, and....oh how these projects pile up!

Happy New Year!

Partytime in December

Meliss was in the spirit of Christmas with her Santa hat and holiday pants. She did a great job creating a fun pass the parcel type game for swapping our gift bags. When the first round brought our gifts right back to the owner, Meliss did not miss a beat and got us going again with another left/right story and that one worked! We took our gifts back to our seats and took turns opening our presents and showing everyone what we got. Really fun!

At Show and Tell Meliss revealed her Amish variation mini quilts. Eye popping!

Betty was able to join us today and she brought along a quilt she made for a co-worker. I'm sure the recipient will love it!

Sue made a quilt for a little sister in her favorite colors of aqua, teal, and cobalt blue. The pattern is from Wiggle Time by CynthiaBDesigns. The designer says it is a quick and easy "go to" quilt available in baby and small sizes.

Leanne keeps wowing us with her graphic quilts. This one is from Cindi McCracken called Nexus. It uses the Dream Big panels.

Another Cindi McCracken quilt by Leanne. This one is called Nova and uses the Dream Big panel and the Supernova panel from Hoffman. Leanne has all of her quilts professionally quilted by Tacoma member Helen Garneau.

Everyone was having such a good time that we forgot about taking photos! Here is a beautiful globe that some lucky person received in her Christmas package. Now just use your imagination to conjure up the rest!

Happy Holidays everyone and see you in 2023!
