Tacoma Meeting May 20, 2015

Tacoma Quilters in Litchfield had 'Strippers for a Day'. Those who wanted to participate brought 2 1/2" strips of their choice of fabric for about 31 who took part. We lined up around the table and took one. This is the second year we have done this and it's very popular. There were several patterns suggested but we can do what we want with them. There was no business and of course, full table of goodies also a mini raffle drawing won by Ann who arrived last ...she was delighted and we all had a good laugh.
Following are pics of our event and a couple of 'show 'n tell.'

Tacoma Meeting - May 6

This is the morning after our Area 4 meeting and our regular business meeting for the month. Excitement in the air....women armed with 'Go cutters'...fabric....goodies including some from last night...what wonderful relationships that have been built and it always so refreshing for us to get-together whatever we are doing for the day. We are having 'strippers for a day' the next meeting so some of us brought our fabrics to get them cut exactly 2 1/2" to share. I will explain more next time. Our block of the month is very popular. If you make the required block your name goes into the pot and the lucky winner was Judy R. Next month our blocks will be yellow and blue. And of course, 'Show 'n Tell' is always popular.

The 'block of the month' was a basket ....your choice of design and color.

15 block were turned in and 15 names put into the drawing.
The lucky winner was Judy R. to her delight!

Area 4 Meeting

A very successful Area 4 Spring Meeting was held May 5, hosted by Tacoma Lakes, Loose Threads, Cabin Fever, and Cumston Area Quilters. About 100 in attendance with a theme using Patriotic colors. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Each attendee was invited to make a 12 1/2" block in red, white and blue for Quilts of Valor of Maine. We had 80 participants with a variety of designs. These were presented to D. Marie Jackson, QOV Maine State Coordinator. She shared the story behind this ministry and was overwhelmed by the participation.  Our special speaker Cyndi Black of the "The Busy Thimble" in Litchfield did an interactive trunk show of her stunning mini quilts. Somerset Samplers were selling tickets for the lovely quilt made by their chapter to be raffled off. We all agreed it was a wonderful evening. Following are various pictures captured... Enjoy...especially if you missed it as we share just a taste of the evening.

Some of the colors in pictures were not great but it gives you an
idea of the quality of work done by Cyndi. She is an amazing quilter.
The tiniest pieces...many 1" ...some hand quilting and applique....gorgeous work!! Cyndi also writes a blog here, detailing what's new in the shop and what she's currently working on.

This was just a small sampling of those she shared at the trunk show.

Neat way to hang mini quilts

Our chapter made 'fidget quilts' for Alzheimer patients. We shared some of those we have made.
They are very small and have buttons, ribbons, things that their hands would like to touch.
Ideas were many...they are also made with different 'feel' to the fabrics. They look ugly but will be special to those we give them to.

 Show 'n Tell
Kathy designed this using salvages. Absolutely stunning
