June 13 Meeting

Today our Tacoma Lakes Quilters met for our monthly meeting. Whoever heard of cancelling in June because of weather. Many of the gals live near the Kennebec River or on streams. Due to flooding and road closures it was impossible to get to meeting place.
Today we came excited and it was a fun day. We had our secret sister reveal and show 'n tell.

Barb, President won one of the raffles and had a bundle of material.
And then, her secret sister, Jona  gave her
this gorgeous hand knit sweater. She always gives her secret sister a sweater and of course many of us 'hope'.

Andrea won the second raffle. Beautiful flowers, finished 12" squares ++
Andrea secret sister gifts....cute pattern
Ann made this beautiful quilt named 'Winter White". A lady commissioned her to do this in memory of her husband using his cotton shirts and undershorts. She spent a lot of time in preparation. It is 113" square with wool batting.
Ann made a smaller version using pink/yellow.
Janet quilt is 'broken dishes' blocks. Blocks were donated and she made this baby quilt
Pauline made this from 2 1/2" strips collected from 'strippers for a day' that each of us received earlier.

Andrea showed this quilt from a local school that was going to throw this out. The school could not display because of a fire hazard so it had been tucked away.
It was done 1996 called "Kool Aid Quilt Book' The hand prints are some of the students including her daughter. She was so delighted with this treasure.
Lori was the one who rescued it plus another one that her daughters hand prints were on.
Both quilts had all the children that attended that school at the time.

This is the back and it was plain material and lines are added.

Our last meeting for this season will be next week. We have a wonderful group of quilters who are at all levels and we are really challenged. We have strong friendships and really enjoy one another with lots of laughter. So until next week.....
