Jan 18 Show 'n Tell

Today was a workshop day making Walker Bags. (shown in the next post)
Whenever we meet women always have Show 'n Tell. So I am displaying them in 2 separate posts.

Sandy using children's shirts with wonderful designs.
Barb D. made this neat little container. Lori H. showed us the design last month that she uses under her sewing machine. It has a plastic pocket(which is hard to see). Barb made hers a little smaller to adapt to her sewing area. Great idea!!
Sue D made this Eleanor Burns 'Night and Day'
Sue D another great design in soft colors.
Sandy's hanging with gradual coloring..... with words 'Serenity'...'Calm'....'Quiet'....'Peace'
It is Delightful!!
Sandy made this delightful blue quilt. Simple yet spectacular!
Sandy also made this in neutral colors.
This is it for this week...see you again on February 1.

Workshop Jan.18.12

9:00 o'clock Wednesday morning about 20 women arrived for an all day workshop armed with sewing machines, material, batting, ribbon and all the things that would take to make 40+ Walker Bags (pictured below-these are used by those who walkers to put all their goodies in). These will be given to our local veterans home, nursing homes....wherever the need is.

We did brown bag lunch and three of the ladies brought sweets to share. Of course, there is always a pot of fresh coffee. It is a wonderful working group....some sewed...some pressed....some cut and then there were those who took kits home. Some chose to cut and make them at home on their own. Our goal was 50 which will be met easily.

Some People Say:

Some people say quilting is work.--I say Quilting is a Labor of love.
Some people say that quilting is for old ladies.-- I say I love being "old".
Some people say that quilting is tedious.--I say it's a relaxing love of art.
Some people say quilting is expensive.--I say it's an investment of love.
Some people say quilting is too time consuming.--I say quilting is a supreme mastery of love.
Some people say what's the point of quilting?-- I say when you put the last stitch in the binding you're one step away from putting a smile someones face and love in their heart when you hand them their quilt.
And that's all I have to say......

Meeting Jan. 4.2012

Tacoma had the first meeting of 2012 Wednesday morning.  We had our business meeting and there was a lot of excitement in all the activities we are doing now and upcoming.

This is Lori H. and  Eleanor Burns 'Night and Day' quilt...beautifully done!

This is Jona, our knitter in the group....she can whip up anything so quick...we are in awe of her 'flying fingers'. Her secret sister gave her yarn and she made this lovely shawl.

Ann W showing here great boats that have been signed....very cheerful!

This is Carol T. the owner of these wonderful old runners that someone meticulously made from YoYo's....Stunning!!

Barb is cleaning out and came across some jewels..This is a May West Sewing Vest with all kinds of pockets on the inside.
Her question was, 'Do you like this bag?"....it was pretty plain and you could take it or leave it. BUT.......keep scrolling...

THIS IS WHAT IT HELD WHEN TURNED RIGHT SIDE OUT. A BEAUTIFUL JACKET. SOME OF THE GIRLS WANTED HER TO FIND THE PATTERN SO THEY COULD MAKE IT. SHE SAID IT WAS DONE IT A LONG TIME AGO AND WAS NOT SURE SHE COULD FIND A PATTERN...It was pretty neat and what a surprise to us.
Judy is one of those quilters who goes outside the box doing things that are unique. She made this oval table cloth with round napkins that are folded for Christmas.Beautiful and bright!!
Margo is doing the BOM mini series. This is the first one for January. www.countryjunktion.com for those who might like to do it.Buttons are used for the eyes...button hole stitch. A fun project.
Lori H made this unique table mat.You set your sewing machine on it. It's clear plastic pocket allows you to see your scissors etc.
Sandy K made this great child's quilt. Dr. Seuss...Bright and cheerful!!
This is the back. Really neat idea.

Each month we have HDYDT? (How do you do that)
This month it was yo-yo's...there are all kinds which surprised many of us. If you look closely you can see butterflies...ovals...hearts...many different sizes. Great to add to a purse...wear as a pin....and on and on. Barb demonstrated for us. It's a very simple technique that anyone can do.
Each month there is a drawing. Jona made and donated 2 pair of socks and 2 knit hats.Sue D (shown) and Pauline were the winners this month.
It was a wonderful time together and many of us went to the 197 diner afterwards for lunch. See you in a couple of weeks.HAPPY QUILTING!!!
