May 4, 2022 Meeting. We have a guest!

Our guest for our May meeting was Barbara Anderson. Barbara spoke to us about the Salvation Army's program called C.R.O.W.N.S. which is a program to help women who are victims of human trafficking. For more information about the program go to https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/.

Tacoma Lakes Quilters have made this program our charity of choice. Several members brought in quilts they wanted to donate. Some of us have quilts we completed but have not found a home for yet. Sometimes family members have enough quilts, if you can imagine that! Now those shelved quilts can find a new home and be greatly appreciated.

Barbara told us of a recent retreat she hosted for women in the Bath-Brunswick area who are victims of human trafficking. She said she gave the women donated quilts and some of the women cried upon being given a quilt. What we stitch at home with love and care is then passed on to someone who needs that love and care.

Judy R. with a granny square table runner. Judy attended a granny square workshop and used three blocks for a cheery red table runner.

Jean P. participated in a Pine Tree Quilt Guild workshop in April. The workshop was with Kathie Beltz. The class used a Deb Tucker ruler to make this pattern that Kathie Beltz designed. The pattern is "Star Shadows".  Perfect colors, Jean!

Ellie S. attended a PTQG workshop last September with Nancy Mahoney. The class worked on Nancy Mahoney's pattern "Twist and Shout". Isn't it interesting how you come to know a quilter by the colors in her quilts? Ellie's quilts are always bright and colorful!

The back of Ellie's "Twist and Shout".

Donna M. had a yard of special fabric that a friend gave her to make a quilt. The fabric uses images from Maurice Sendak's book "Where the Wild Things Are". Did you ever read that book to your children or grandchildren? What fun to read the book while snuggling under this quilt!

Bev tried her hand at paper piecing. She said she had never done paper piecing before, but just look at this gorgeous quilt! Magical work Bev! We all clapped our hands to see this beauty!

After Barbara's presentation and Show and Tell, we had our business meeting. Members, look to your minutes for more details, but briefly, we talked about the upcoming Maine Quilts show and also our future as a chapter. It is doubtful that we have the membership numbers,  realistically, to  be able to put on a quilt show as we have done in the past. Our membership is ageing, sad to say, and fewer people are physically able to do the work involved in setting up a show. Also, fewer members means fewer quilts. We will discuss this at later meetings. For now, we have Maine Quilts and there are various ways to participate by volunteering at the show and entering quilts for the show. We've certainly seen many beautiful quilts posted here on our blog and it would be lovely to see many of them at Maine Quilts. Spread the joy, ladies!

Upcoming for the chapter, a picnic this summer and a quilter's yard sale in the fall. Stay tuned!
