A president always has a load even when there are many helpers. Barbara D is no exception. Always coming up with innovative ideas ...challenging us to step out of our comfort zone...giving so much of her time and energy. It has been an exciting time as she has led this group. We decided last Fall that we wanted to do something special for her. One of the members saw this beautiful quilt in a magazine called 'Rhubarb Pie' . An idea was born, the color would be pink/green with each member making a combination of these colors in 4-patches. Sue R spear headed the whole process with help from various gals. Ann W. quilted it.
HERE WE GO AS I SHARE THE DAY WITH YOU
WITH PHOTO'S AND THE JOY OF GIVING TO
SOMEONE WHO MEANS SO MUCH TO US.
Her first gift was this little box with all the leftovers. She said 'what do you expect me to do with these'. She does not do scrap quilts.
It was so fun to watch her through the whole process.
Barb and Sue, the presenter, who put so much time into this.
Sue had opened with remarks about our appreciation of her and
I really think she thought this little box was 'it'...
A gift wrapped box was presented to her...she is probably telling us how we
did it without her knowing. It was not easy but we did!!
She is reading a card and taking her time and we tell her,
'come on, hurry up and open it.'
The impatience of a group of women.
She calls for a pair of scissors and can you believe it....
could not find a pair in a room of quilters.
Finally, someone pulls out a pair and she begins the process
while we anxiously await her reaction.
Still working at getting the tape off and talking....
Her first reaction...she now sees that it is a quilt!
Carefully inspecting it.
We have her sit down so she can fully see this stunning quilt.
Not sure what the remarks are ..but she looks happy..
CLOSE UP INSPECTION OF BARB, SUE AND ANN W.
WHO QUILTED IT SO BEAUTIFULLY.(sh'e reading the label)
THE LABEL WAS DESIGNED BY SUANNE AND
PAULINE MADE IT ON HER EMBROIDERY MACHINE.
Barb D. all wrapped up and ready for those cold Maine winters...
she will have to wait a few months.
"RHUBARB PIE" - front of quilt.
We had so many left over 4-patches that a decision
was made to make it reversible.
A few of the squares on the back have been signed by each member,
some with a little note of appreciation.
Trust you enjoyed our presentation of a very
exciting day for the membership.
Now for show'n tell
Barb D made this great backpack.
Carry on your back
Sue R "MONTANA LOG CABIN' quilt. Made for her husband. Great looking.
Pauline made this paper pieced runner with BIENVENUE (Welcome) Free from EQ download....Very well done with great coloring.
Carol T. This was taught in a class 'MAGIC CIRCLE'.
She is using it on her table as a center piece.
Carol T with another project from 'stained glass wall hanging' class. Stunning!!
Carol T. with a scap quilt. This is a favorite of many of the gals.
So many are doing variations and they are wonderful.
Sandi C found the center blocks of redwork and put it together
with this great arrangement..
Sandi C made this quilt. Her grandchldren picked out the fabrics. It came out so cute and I am sure they were delighted. Wonderful when children take an interest in what another generation is doing. What a legacy they will have.
Ann W. had 'on the back burner' for a few years this quilt to be made and given to her parents for their 50th wedding anniversary;. She finally finished it and it is really very nice. A perfect gift!
close up of her skillful quilting.
This is it for this month. We have only one meeting left for the year in two weeks when we have our wrap up for the summer. Until then.....
