Tacoma Lakes Quilters will do a challenge again this year, and the theme is "Bee Sew Inspired", which is also the theme for Maine Quilts 2018. KathyB is coordinating this event. Guidelines for members are as follows.
-- The perimeter of your quilt must be 96" or larger. At this size, quilts can be hung individually instead of pinned to a backing sheet.
-- Any technique may be used -- have fun!
-- Use shades and tints of white, yellow and black. For example, your colors could include cream, grey or brown. Think of the darkest and lightest shades of each of these 3 colors. One extra color is allowed -- this is your choice.
-- Must have a hexagon somewhere on the quilt. This could include the shape of the quilt, one hexagon pieced or appliqued, or even the label in the shape of a hexagon.
-- Embellishments are allowed so long as they comply with the show rules.
-- To enter our challenge quilts in Maine Quilts 2018, paperwork must be submitted NLT May 15. (We'll verify that date once the show booklet is published.) This does not mean the quilt must be completed.
-- The REVEAL will be at our summer picnic July 18, and challenge quilts will be collected that day. Each quilt must have a label with the maker's name, address, phone number, and title of the quilt. The same information also needs to be on the outside of a bag or pillowcase the quilt is transported in. If you are unable to attend the picnic, please contact Kathy so another arrangement can be made.
-- Pinterest is a great source of inspiration, but if you are not comfortable with the internet, there is always the traditional honeybee block. Keep your eyes open for ideas--there are lots out there! We have plenty of time to work on this. We are a talented and productive group, so let's make a good showing!

January 3, 2018 Tacoma
Tacoma Lakes Quilters first meeting of the New Year was very cold day, but the sun was shining so it made the heart warmer.
We are a busy chapter ...we collected items for the warming center in Augusta last month. Our charity for NICU has yielded about 100 quilts.
We are working on a block a month of different sizes that will be a workshop. There was a request to learn 'how to' put together different size blocks. It will be demonstrated at the May meeting.
Demo's after our business meeting the lst meeting of the month are popular. Today members shared their favorite tool, pattern, book or gift they received for Christmas. One gal bought herself a new long arm machine...WOW!! we were all excited for her.
What fun we had...joy filled the room.
