Tacoma - Workshop February 17, 2016

Tacoma Lake Quilters of Litchfield met today on this gorgeous Maine day for a workshop. I arrived a little late and opened a door and it sounded like a bee hive. Excitement was in the air. Barbara D taught,  "Versatile Wave Handbag'.  Many were still working on it and we will have some finished ones next posting.
The Block of the month was red/white and won by Sue C.

Tacoma -- February 3, 2016

Yesterday was our business meeting for the month of February; and even though the weather was a little iffy, we had a decent turnout. We took care of the usual events--Fat Quarter Club, collection for Food for Thought, Mini Raffle, and the Block drawing. We also briefly discussed the bus trip--we have planned to go to MQX in New Hampshire in April, provided Anne can make the necessary arrangements. Plans for the quilt show in October were discussed and firmed up some more. All the chairwomen have now been appointed, and we have started selling tickets for our beautiful raffle quilt.

We had a good meeting, with an enticing array of refreshments and a nice selection of quilts for show and tell. AnneT is to be a first-time grandmama later this year and made this cute cloth baby book for her new grandbaby. I expect we'll see more from her this year in the way of baby quilts.



SueC used the "Northwoods Window Pane Quilt" pattern to make this fun quilt.



We had a couple of gals that made fabric wrapped baskets from our workshop two weeks ago. SueK made hers as an oval, which was supposed to be easier to start. Her pretty two-color basket turned out to be a very useful size.



Last week at Group sewing day, Bea hadn't yet started a basket and wasn't even sure she wanted to. Not only did she decide to give it a try, but she made TWO baskets. They turned out beautifully, even if the photo didn't. Her cat has taken up residence in the larger one.



The theme for our quilt show this year is log cabins, and Betty made this cute little log cabin, which we hope might go in the show.

AnnW was busy with Valentine's Day preparations and made herself an apron for the holiday.

Kathy was envious of a quilt carry bag that she had seen one of the members with and finally made herself one. The carry bag is from the book Jelly Roll Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott and was taught in a Tacoma workshop by one of our members, Bev, a few years ago.



SueR finally finished her stack 'n whack quilt from a Bethany Reynolds workshop back in 2008. 'Bout time! The pattern is called "Checkerboard Tiles". 

Following the meeting, Barbara did a demonstration for her chicken pincushion. They're quick and easy to make. Barbara had a handout for us, but you can find free patterns on the web. Missouri Star Quilt Co. also has a video tutorial on their website.
