Road Trip

Nineteen ladies from Tacoma Quilters climbed into 5 vehicles and headed North on our road trip. Of course one of the sidelights were the colorful leaves. Many have found their way to the ground but it still was beautiful. We stopped in Farmington for a coffee break and arriving at our destination approximately 2 hours at Threads Galore Quilt Shop & Quilt Inn Retreat Center in Rangeley. This is our group with the shop in the back ground and the retreat center in front of us and not shown. We toured the facility and it is gorgeous.

'Show and tell' is always fun wherever we are. Yona and her first quilt for her dog!!

Our gracious hostess, Carol, owner and her helper.

Carol greeted us at the door and gave each of us a gift

Beautiful fabrics and many, many quilts, runners, wall hangings and also bargains which ever quilter likes. A first class shop with so many offerings to fit anyone's taste.

Beside the shop is this beautiful tree that is losing its leaves beginning at the top. The frost has evidently not reached the lower leaves. You could actually watch as the leaves fell. An interesting note, is that behind each falling leaf is a shoot ready to spring forth in the Spring.

Oh, the wonders of nature.

We ate at The Red Onion known for its pizza has excellent food and highly recommended. We did not go away hungry and many tried the luscious homemade desserts.

The Pumpkin bread pudding was a hit!

Here we are enjoying one another. A great group and we always have lots of fun.

Our next shop was Carol's North Woods Quilting very close to the NH border above Rangeley. Carol, the owner

Above is the owner Carol and I caught her off guard.

She is very busy trying to cut fabric and check us out.

Here are the entourage of cars. It was a clear day until we got in our cars and headed home and then it began to rain. Many of us were tired and agreed it was a wonderful day. We appreciate all the effort that goes into a trip like this. Our President, Barb who mapped out and contacted the shops and restaurant. The drivers Kat, Sandy, Janice, Lori and Jona.

Thank you ladies for making our day a great one.

Tacoma Oct. 5, 2011

Tacoma had a wonderful meeting as always. Each month a couple different ladies bring goodies. This month it is apple picking time in Maine. Delicious apple squares, apple brownies, applesauce and a coffee cake. All of them delicious!!

The first meeting of each month is our business meeting followed by demonstrations "How do you do that". This month we learned how to do scallop edges and mitered corners for those learning or needing a refresher course. Quilting is an ever learning experience and it is fun to watch how others do different techniques.

We also had drawings for our secret sister which was so popular last year that we decided to do it again. And then there is 'sweet treats' drawing where 2 names a month are drawn and they received their 'requested color' in a fat quarter or 2 1/2" strips etc. You can see we are a busy club.

It was decided to make a project and have a raffle at least once a month. Our first one was a wall hanging done in Bali's by Sue and Andrea was the excited and surprised winner! Just a little way for us to make some money and others to benefit. Ann's - adorable baby quilt done from a panel.
Barb's place mats

Table runner to match.

Judy's beautiful jacket. Front and back shown. You really have to see it up close to see the intricate techniques she did. Please note the matching socks!! Smile!!!

Margo's Star quilt - a block of the month designed by Judy Laquidara. The blocks were done online in 2009 and finally the top was finished last night. 90" square

Jona did these pumpkins and notice they are front and back. She said it was fun project.

Lori's cute table runners...these are made very quickly and a delight to many. Great way to use focus fabric.

Pauline's place mats

Pauline's gorgeous quilt. Block of the month done at Whipper Snappers in Hallowell. Beautiful coloring and the back was just as pretty.

You will note that some of the quilts do not have their picture shown as I made a promise to the gals if their picture did not come out good I would not post. We have a wonderful group with so much talent. Until next time......
