Tacoma October 2 2019 Business Meeting

Tacoma met for our business meeting on this beautiful October day. It is always a fun time pouring a cup of coffee..picking up a snack and catching up with each other. We are a friendly group and it does not matter who you happen to chat with you feel comfortable.
We have lots of things planned for this year. Coming up Oct 16 is the 'make and take' meeting. Several gals have small projects and will share with instructions. There has been lots of interest to make that 'little thing' and leave with it finished or instructions as to 'how to' make.
A fun project is our "Bucket list'. We look at a project and say, "What was I thinking" I have always wanted to make but never did ...so the challenge is to make the quilt, hanging, block etc. and completely finish by June to be entered in a drawing.
We had two demo's ...one by Brenda P demonstrating 'how to' of Yo Yo Makers and
Donna M using the 'Twister  Tool' .
And as always our gals have been busy and shared their 'Show 'n Tell'.

Tacoma Lakes Quilters September 4, 2019 Business

We held our first business meeting of 2019-2020 with 38 members present.  We had 3 new members join us. It was great to see everyone and I heard so many say, "it was a busy summer" ...camp time, family time, canning time.. trips etc. You can now feel 'Fall' in the air and it will soon be those days that 'home' calls us because of the winter storms and we can hibernate and quilt to our hearts content. BUT!!! we have a few more weeks.
Our first Workshop with Betty Lam making 'the Plaid-ish quilt' 64x82.  You can see a picture of it below. We are gathering our material...she says, "you do not have to think about it. Just pick lights ...darks and medium fabrics that are distinct." Sound easy?..I am smiling...Yes, for some but not all.
We have lots of projects planned for the new year and will be sharing them from month to month.
We will be taking a bus trip within the State, the Down East area as we call it to several small shops and also stopping for lunch in Bar Harbor at Geddy's. Excitement in the air. Trips are always fun!

SEPTEMBER MEMBERS MEETING

September Members’ Meeting News

Waterville Thomas College, Summit Room,
180 West River Road, Waterville, Maine
Saturday, September 7, 02019Business meeting at 10:00 a.m
Unfortunately, we have canceled Sue Edmonson workshops and lecture for the Members’ weekend. We did not have sufficient enrollment for the workshops.

Please join us for our Saturday lecture with Carolee Withee, a longtime PTQG member and a resident of Maine.
She is presenting: WHY I LEARNED TO TAT!
I will bring blue-ribbon winning quilts from 2016 and 2017; which were recognized for embellishment and mixed techniques. This season’s quilt, Holiday Villages, was inspired by the red roofs of Italy and Croatia. All of my latest quilts contain at least one piece of vintage handwork and lace, stitched figures, and fabric paint to enhance the theme of the quilt. All of the quilt designs are original. Because I like learning new techniques, my designs seem to have evolved into a style that says “The more, the better!”
My husband, our cat and I moved to Whitefield in 2000. The walls in our new home were pretty bare so I started making small and colorful quilts to hang. When I started adding vintage handwork to each quilt, I realized how much I like designing. I have given many trunk shows, and I hope, given ideas to women who have inherited embroidery. I continue to be involved in a project making pieced quilts for Veterans, but more and more, I find my pleasure in embroidery. The only problem is that my kitchen table serves as my workspace. There is no room leftover for my husband to sit and eat!
Career: School teacher in Cumberland, ME. Taught at Universities while in Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan; also, in Moldova. Traveled a lot! A summer study in Israel, seminar in Australia, summer work camp in Czechoslovakia, biking trips and archaeology participant.
Love Maine winters because I snowshoe (and because I don’t HAVE to drive in the snow).
Still love to grow flowers, but as my age increases, my garden size decreases.
