Tacoma Lakes Quilters met Wednesday for our first meeting of the new membership year 2017-2018. It was good to see old friends again and welcome a few new members. We have a couple of new officers this year, and we're looking forward to another great year of programs and activities.
Dues were collected, a budget was approved, Sherry conducted the mini raffle, funds were collected for Food for Thought, and we discussed the upcoming Area 4 meeting. We also held a brief discussion about our upcoming YARD SALE, which is September 23 at the Litchfield Sportsman's Club. We will continue with the NICU quilts as our charity project, for the third year in a row; and KathyB plans to create a challenge for us for Maine Quilts 2018.
DonnaW introduced a new Block of the Month program for this year. She and Margo will be specifying a size for the blocks each month, and perhaps a theme or color and each participant will make and keep her own block and assemble a small sampler by the end of the year.
There were quite a few projects for Show and Tell, and it was fun to see what members had been doing over the summer.

Tacoma Picnic July 17, 2017
Tacoma Lakes Quilters met for their summer picnic. As always a great selection of food....we have the greatest cooks. Not much business
but lots of sharing with one another.
On a sad note we lost our friend and quilter, Koleen Painchaud to cancer. She made hundreds of quilts and donated
to various people, organizations etc.
Always a new idea in her mind about how she
was going to use the fabrics she had in hand.

A gifted woman who left a life and love of quilting to so many of us. So much could be said about her ...but will leave it at that. She shared the following beautiful quilts at two of our meetings
and I am sure she probably had some more
that are still sitting waiting for her skilled hands.
The last time she shared at our meeting was June 21 with this beautiful -
"SCRAP CRYSTALS"
a Bonnie Hunter pattern.
she used many of her patterns over time.
She announced at that meeting she would be doing
custom quilting again as she had not been able because of illness.
She was a fighter and persevered even when she did not feel well.
She will be missed by so many and left
a wonderful legacy of her expertise to the quilting world.
June 7 she showed the following 3 quilts she had finished.
"Chocolate Covered Cherries" by bits and pieces.
"Late Bloomers"
Kim Diehl - Simple Appeal
"DUE SOUTH"
Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.
THANK YOU KOLEEN FOR YOUR LOVE OF QUILTING AND ALL THE PLACES YOU SERVED OVER THE YEARS. YOU WILL NOT
BE FORGOTTEN BY US.
